Webshire Kennels specializes in the development of your gun dog or competition retriever. Our in-house training programs are individually tailored to your needs and the personality of your dog. Whether you desire an expert pheasant or duck dog or a polished handling gun dog or competition dog, Webshire has over 30 years of experience to help you achieve your goals.
Webshire Kennels is located on 40 beautiful acres, which were specifically designed for retriever training. The fields and wooded areas provide many different cover and terrain changes to allow the dogs to be worked in as many different scenarios as possible. Each point and island was carefully contoured to provide numerous training concepts that carry over to many testing environments and real-life hunting situations.
Puppy Head Start Training:
Webshire offers a puppy head start program for puppies 3-6 months of age. This program introduces young puppies to the joys of retrieving and gets them of to a great start in developing a love of fieldwork. Puppies are introduced to the joy of retrieving, birds, blank pistol and water (weather permitting). Puppy obedience, trips afield and basic temperament assessment are also a part of this well-rounded introductory program.
Cost: $200/week. (Head start week runs Monday-Friday)
Gun Dog Basic Training:
Formal training for retrievers over 6 months of age.
This program gets your gun dog ready to hunt! A solid foundation is the key to a great gun dog, and the Gun Dog Basics program is where it all begins. Starting with basic obedience, collar conditioning and the conditioned retrieve, dogs are taught the basic skills required to become a well-mannered field partner. Once these skills are understood, dogs move into more challenging field situations to learn how to become an asset in the field. Dogs are taught how to find, flush and bring back game in a proficient fashion, making your hunting experience more enjoyable.
For those who enjoy retriever games, this program develops a dog towards the Junior Hunter title.
Average length of time to complete basics is 10-12 weeks. Cost $1000/month, plus birds.
Gun Dog Intermediate Training:
This program takes your hunting dog to the next level of skills. Concepts taught range from increased steadiness to more challenging marking scenarios, including doubles and diversions. Beginning handling skills are taught, teaching dogs basic knowledge on how to go, stop and take direction.
For those who enjoy the retriever games, this program develops a dog towards the Senior Hunter title.
Length of time varies. Cost: $1000/month, plus birds.
Gun Dog Advanced Training:
This program helps to add the polish that makes a dog into what is known as a “Finished Dog”. Fine-tuning handling skills, multiple marks, and continued refinement of advanced skills help your retriever become capable of completing even the most difficult retrieves.
For those who enjoy the retriever games, this program develops a dog towards the Master Title…and beyond.
